In soccer the term offside refers to the act of occupying an illegal position on the field. My project, Offside, is a body of work (oil paintings and graphite and gouache drawing on paper) focused on the act of dislocation. Sourcing imagery online of both natural landscapes and built environments, I insert abstract forms that suggest nanotechnology and microscopic interventions. These images infect reality with its representation, the abstract with the figurative and the analog with the digital. Selections from the project were exhibited at Josee Bienvenu Gallery (2006), the Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum (2007) and the Arranz-Bravo Foundation (2010).
